A Crazy Spring Break!

Our Spring Break didn't plan out quite the way we had anticipated last week, but ended up on a good note! I had planned to work a few days, plan lots of fun activities with friends, then head down to the farm for a visit. Instead, we worked a little, all got strep throat, and didn't see many friends. We did manage to make it down to the farm towards the end of the week. Lucky for us, there was much warmer weather!

After laying around most of Friday and resting , we were all on the upswing by Saturday. Pierce had a day full of fun...making pancakes, a trip to the co-op to buy some vegetables to plant, fishing, swimming, kite flying, a fish fry, visiting with family, and his new favorite sport - frisbee!

Pierce loves visiting the farm, but I'm pretty sure our dog, Maggie, likes it better! I've also learned that we are needed much when Gigi and Poppa are around, he would much more prefer for them to do things for him than us...which I'm fine with. :) I think Gigi got bed duty every night! Lots of progress has been made on the new house too, I bet when we go back it will look completely different. We will have to visit again soon!!

An Interview

I took this video about a week and a half ago after the St. Paddy's celebration at school. Pierce was excited to tell me all about the leprachaun at school. I told him I would interview him about it, he got really excited, and put on quite the show...

Soccer

Friday night kicked off spring soccer for Pierce! His daddy was hoping for him to play t-ball, but since he's not quite ready yet we decided on soccer. This family knows very little about soccer, so we've all got a lot to learn!

Headed to his first game!

First they had practice time, then split up for their game.  I like that you do it all at once and it doesn't require two different days!  We did lots of laughing, so far, soccer doesn't appear to be his sport.  There was lots of whinning and crying on the field, by him and others.  Pierce just didn't understand why the others weren't sharing the ball!  We tried to tell him you have to work to get it!

Carter, Jones, and Pierce...the boys on the team.  Little Jones was the best player!  They team the kids up by school so he knows all the kids he is playing with.

The Zoo and a Ballgame

Yesterday, we met some friends at the zoo. It was a perfect almost spring day to walk around and see all the animals! Hopefully, we can go back soon since the weather is warming up!

Of course, no trip to the zoo is complete without a ride on the train. Poor Carter was somewhat traumatized since he had just been to Disney and was afraid it would drop at any point and splash into water!

Cousin Andrew was also in town for a travel baseball tournament.  We headed to Alabaster to watch him play for a little while.  Pierce and Abby loved getting to see each other and entertained themselves.  Playing a game of duck, duck goose with only one duck...not really sure how that works?!

Andrew is up to bat!! Too bad they aren't closer so we could do this more often. Way to go, Andrew!

Things that warm my heart....

I want to write about this so that I will remember it....recently, there have been two different instances at church that have warmed my heart.  A friend was in Pierce's room during extended care at church and she told me that there was a new child in there.  He was by himself and Pierce went up to him and asked him why he was alone, he then told him his name was Pierce and that he could play with him!  I think one reason he may have done this is because he occasionally will go with me to work to be a peer with some of my students.  Since I work with kids with autism, I try to prep him and explain that they may not talk to him or look at him but he can still talk to them and try to play.  I guess he took it to heart!

Again, at church this morning one of the workers told me that a peer was pushing him and he looked at him and said, "Would Jesus want you to push me?"  I'm thinking if he had been at school he may not of had the same response, but I'm glad to know he had Jesus on his heart this morning!

McWane!

Last week we met friends, Henry, Grant and Grace, at the McWane Center for a morning full of fun! We had not been in quite some time so Pierce thought it was an extra special treat!

Laying on the bed of nails!  It's so funny now that all of the kids are getting older how they will try more exhibits and are entertained with them much longer than in the past. I'm not sure this is one he's ever wanted to do before!

This soccer exhibit was a hit with the boys, they could watch themselves blocking the ball on the side screen and thought it was fun to be on tv.  I practically drug him away so we could leave!

"Oh, The Places You Will Go...."

Today was Dr. Suess' birthday and if you have a preschooler, or work with them like I do, that is a pretty big deal!

Pierce's class kicked off the celebration on Wednesday and he got to choose a Dr. Suess book from home to share with his class. He took "I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!"

Today they had wacky pj's day, he thought it was hilarious to dress like this for school and decided he also needed mismatched shoes! They also had green eggs and ham for a snack!

Even as an adult I love Dr. Suess books, lucky for me I was at one of my schools today and got to hear Dr. Suess books all day!  "Wacky Wednesday" was one and I'd never heard it!!  "Oh The Places You Will Go" is probably my favorite, someone special gave it to me when I graduated college.  Pierce doesn't understand why I have a kids book!!
